After 22 months on the job, Roland Soto has much to like about working as the City of Brownwood’s first-ever sports coordinator.

Soto particularly likes the numbers he presented recently to the Brownwood City Council showing that sporting events held in the city in 2018 have had an economic impact of $527,493, including 1,566 room nights in local hotels.

DaVita Kidney Care recently announced the opening of a new dialysis center located at 2511 Crockett Drive, in Brownwood. The new center will have 12 dialysis stations and will dialyze patients on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 7:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. with the possibility of expanded treatment days. The center is also accepting new patients for peritoneal dialysis (PD). PD offers more flexibility as patients can dialyze at home, work or on vacation.

The Texas Board of Nursing unanimously approved Howard Payne University’s proposal to offer the pre-licensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree. At a BON meeting held Thursday in Austin, the news was communicated to HPU representatives Dr. W. Mark Tew, provost and chief academic officer; Dr. Nina Ouimette, dean of nursing; and Laci Sutton, instructor of nursing.   The approval follows many months of diligent preparation and close correspondence with the BON by HPU administrators and faculty.
