During Tuesday’s Brownwood City Council meeting, the city approved a $350,000 incentive for Hendrick Health System to construct a Medical Office Building next to the Hendrick Surgery Center. 

The Surgery Center, a 13,400 square-foot facility, opened earlier this year. Now Hendrick plans a 20,500 square-foot building with physician space, a lab draw station, radiology services and physical therapy services to accompany it. The project is projected at $11.6 million total.

Hendrick Health System celebrated the completion of a new surgery center in Brownwood with a ribbon cutting ceremony this morning. Mayor Stephen Haynes, Dr. James Fowler, Hendrick Trustee Paul Waldrop, and Hendrick CEO Tim Lancaster, spoke to a crowd of more than 200 people gathered for the ceremony.

Brownwood City Council members recently approved a $120,000 incentive from the Brownwood Municipal Development District that will be paid at the end of a Wright Asphalt construction period and after the company produces documentation that shows its capital investment and addition of employees, BMDD Executive Director Guy Andrews said.

The Brownwood Municipal Development District is a non-profit organization to promote, assist, stimulate, and enhance economic development in Brownwood. The BMDD is funded through a ½ cent sales tax and is governed by a 5-member Board of Directors who are appointed by the City Council.

The City of Brownwood held a successful election on May 7, 2016 which terminated the Brownwood Economic Development Corporation (BEDC) and creates the Brownwood Municipal Development District (BMDD).  At a recent city council meeting, a resolution was adopted to approve the dissolution plan for the BEDC.
