The Brownwood Municipal Development District (BMDD) was created by voters in May of 2016. The Brownwood Municipal Development District is a non-profit organization to promote, assist, stimulate, and enhance economic development in Brownwood. The BMDD is funded through a ½ cent sales tax and is governed by a 5-member Board of Directors who are appointed by the City Council.

The City of Brownwood held a successful election on May 7, 2016 which terminated the Brownwood Economic Development Corporation (BEDC) and creates the Brownwood Municipal Development District (BMDD).  At a recent city council meeting, a resolution was adopted to approve the dissolution plan for the BEDC.

Representatives of the Abilene and Brownwood medical communities joined local officials and other guests Friday afternoon for a groundbreaking ceremony for the Hendrick Surgery Center in Brownwood.

The $5.2 million outpatient surgery center will be built at 2401 Crockett and is scheduled to open in the spring of 2017.

3M Manufacturing of Brownwood and Domtar Personal Care of Waco have partnered with Texas State Technical College (TSTC) to provide job training for 145 new and incumbent workers using a $262,809 Skills Development Fund grant from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). The grant will benefit workers in the Workforce Solutions for the Heart of Texas area.
