Brownwood, TX - The City of Brownwood is taking a significant step towards further revitalizing its downtown area with the selection of Freese and Nichols, Inc. (FNI) to lead the design phase of key projects. FNI, responsible for the 2003 and 2024 Downtown Master Plans, will now translate the vision outlined in the latter into actionable plans for construction.
Phase I of the project focuses on high-impact catalyst projects, including:
Streetscape Improvements: Enhancements to Baker Street and Fisk Street, encompassing roadwork, sidewalks, traffic signals, lighting, landscaping, and underground utilities.
Fisk Art Park: Development of a vibrant public art space adjacent to Fisk Street, incorporating artistic elements. The project will be a public/private partnership, and transform the area into a family-friendly destination, enhancing the non-commercial offerings.
Silos Park: Creation of a park and promenade at the site of the historic silos, featuring a courtyard and green spaces.
To fund the design phase, the City has allocated $550,000 from the FY 24/25 budget. Subsequent expenses will be covered by City reserves, with a plan to reimburse the City upon the issuance of funding for construction.
Engineering work is expected to commence in January 2025 and conclude by the end of 2026, with an estimated duration of 18-21 months.
